THE MAN WHO LIKES TO SAY NO

Indirectly, my Stevie Ray Vaughn, Complacent father turned me on to Stanley Kubrick. Twas round my freshman year of high school that the wilderbeast known as RAY HILL spoke on high from the mullet mountaintops:

"YOU SEEM TO BE OF FREAK NATURE. YOU WILL DIG UPON THE ESSENCE THAT IS A CLOCKWORK ORANGE"

Nah, that was some kind of biblical interpretation of the incounter. Truthfully it was more along the lines of:

"FUCK, FLIX IS SHOWIN' CLOCKWORK ORANGE AT 'ROUND ELEVEN. THAT'S THE KIND OF SHIT YOU'D BE INTO. ALL KINDS OF CRAZY SHIT. FUCK IT, JUST WATCH THE FUCKER."

Ahh, When the poet speaks. Girls tremble in their skirts and the men listen, correct? Regardless, I listended to the old man's advice. There isn't too many ways you can describe seeing A CLOCKWORK ORANGE at the age of fourteen. Frightening, Unrealistic, Tragic, Violent, whatever. When the clock keeps ticking and you graze near the mid-twenties the whole chimichanga hits close to home. Institutional lies, programming, deception, complacency, religion, devotion...the whole kit-en-kaboodle. Berry Berry frightening...yet interesting stuff.

What is silly, childish fantasy....what is adult compulsion. desire, and ultimately mankind's destruction??? Are the drunkards and sloths those who really get the winning ticket in life's amazing, fucking loitery, I mean lottery??

Is Kubrick's SHINING almost some strange allegory to the working capitalist drove and the de-huminization that comes with dedicating ones-self to a career in this model? This thought graces my mind after the former caretaker has a scene with Jack Nich. This cat explains to Jack that Jack Nicholson's character has ALWAYS been the caretaker at this resort. But the audience all KNOWS that the BATHROOM ATTENDANTs character WAS the caretaker before JACK NICHOLSON. IS this a thought upon the mechanisms used against reliable workers in a capitalist system?? That you will gain some form of raise or advancement upon the enslavery fo your fellow co-workers? Maybe it's just me but I find this dynamic true of American Employee Relations. It also makes me want to wish I was never born in a land so cruel and PRECISE. Can things ever be like they are in a Care Bears cartoon?? Why Not?

i like to think the allegory for the world we live in can be found in the cracks in the sidewalk. the devil is in the details, and if you stare long enough at the spots on the walls or the twinings of the leaves in the branches all the world will be open to you...

if that fails, ask the trees. they will never give you a straight answer, but they always know the questions you should be asking. and the only proof of any godlike incarnation i have found is the giant sequoias. those things know whats going on, and to be in their presence is to KNOW a higher power.

if all else fails, stop watching movies and go think for yourself. remember, the media is part of the institution to...
