How does one spend the day off? Well, I spent mine down at the ole Plasma clinic. I don't have money problems and I wasn't there to give up the plasma. I just wanted to see what kind of people would be milling about in a Plasma center. It makes me sick to live in this country. We're supposed to be the richest country in the world. All I saw was human decay. Tattered clothes, dirty faces, no fucking hope. There is nothing here to be patriotic about. Yeah, being able to say what you want is fantastic, but if you can't eat or have a place to stay it's all a little meaningless. Sure, trying playing that freedom card when that freedom interferes with the flow of business. You'll see that freedom vanish in the mist like fucking David Copperfield.
There were so many people there giving blood plasma, It reminded me of all of those photographs of post-communist Russia. Desperate people in line for bread like some stand in line to ride rollercoasters. When they start selling you that "land of the free" and "be grateful for all that you have" bullshit...tell 'em to take a look outside and then fuck off. You'll most likely hear those questions when talking to older relatives or people living in Biodomes. Whatever form of paradise this place may or may not have been, it sure as hell not like that anymore. There are definetley more ruins and ghostly shells than there is beautiful. What's shocking is that you can tell that some of these buildings/architecture used to be full of life. It's as if a large vampire has came through and sucked the life out of everything in this country.
Words woudln't do the scenes justice. I rarely get to those parts of Toledo.....those parts? Hell, that's pretty much a solid 70 percent of the town. I keep thinking of ROGER AND ME by Michael Moore. I don't really know what to think or say about any of this.
It's funny....small groups of vampires bleeding the economy and making slaves out of the people...and the penniless people getting rent money from donating blood plasma. It could easily not be the age of irony but that wouldn't make any money I suppose.
soundtrack of the day
CHARLEY PATTON "Complete Recordings"
THE GERMS "Lexicon Devil"
Captain Beefheart "Trout Mask Replica"
Pixies "Doolittle"
Radio Birdman "Hand Of Law"
