nothing much new. I can't wait for summer to be over, it's cooled down some but still too hot to WANT to do much outside & staying in is depressing the hell out of me. No work to speak of, I've put a few of the bikes up on craigslist. basically they're all for sale except the ZRX which is the practical do-it all bike...

what all you got for sale man?

I hate to see your wonderful toys go away, but I can totally get behind what you're doing.

No work to speak of so I've been riding the new mountain bike a ton lately. I picked up the frame unused on craigslist a couple months ago. Then I agonized over choosing & shopping for parts for a month or so. It's been together for a little less than 3 weeks now. One week to break it in & work out any bugs (none...

Nice...I visit Bootleg every now and then but you sound like you would be a good person to follow out there...Need to get some pads first.

I mostly ride at Cottonwood. Easier rides and allows for more people from the store to all go. need t be riding Bootleg b4 Interbike next month. Looks like I will be hitting you up sooner than you maybe expected

Those are some beautiful pictures. I love salad so thanks for the idea.

I should have a new internet connection pretty soon, but right now nothing. Yesterday I had to pull a pit bull off of Norvin. I'm by no means a pit hater, but this ain't helping that attitude. Norvin & I were jogging & the thing came out of nowhere, no barking no showing teeth, just leaped anmd latched onto Norvin's side. I punched the thing...

This gave me a kick today -
I usually listen to Little Steven's Underground Garage on Sirius at work, it's far & away my favorite station. Anyhow, I hear Mick Collins singing some song I'm not familiar with. I dig every band that Mick has been in, most especially The Gories, but everything he does is good. Here's a $20 Gories video that rocks way...

Crazy violent hailstorm yesterday. 100+ degrees out and there's frozen stuff falling from the sky? Weirdsville! Today is the 4th of July Damboree, our town's annual festival celebrating the 4th of July and the Boulder Dam, known to the rest of the world by it's illegitimate title "Hoover Dam." At the Damboree you can eat as many dam hot dogs as you want and throw...

We have a town kickball game every Thursday night.
And then there's live music on the green on Tuesday nights then everyone heads to the bar afterward.
Oh and this is ballerina week.

My old town in Illinois had a corn festival.
Cindy Crawford was corn queen one year.
She lived in my town....

the maple festival? We have one of those around me, where did you grow up?

Today I got a break from thinking about my own recent drama, although I'd rather I hadn't. My mom called and relayed some bad news -

One of her friend's children, someone I care about (our families grew up together in Ohio, but he's 11 years younger than I) has cancer. He is 28 and the doctor is recommending that they remove everything nearby. This...

it's amazing how random life is sometimes. With all the shit i have done in my life i should technically have some type of disease like that, but amazingly i don't.

Yes, actually, I DID see that documentary! I'm a fan, but not of his whole catalog, my favorite period is the Ragged Glory/Arc/Weld phase (plus "Touch The Night" from Landing On Water), though everything he's done is brilliant. I had Rust Never Sleeps on cassette, wore that fucker out.

I hate to hear that about your friend, man. That's gotta be a hard row to hoe at any age.

You hang in there, okay? Don't let it bring you down, it's only castles burning.

Just a quick update -

I'm getting back on track pretty quickly & feeling a lot better. Still a bit bummed about losing 7 years sobriety, but that's just the ego reminding me it's there. I've been keeping busy, going to meetings & trying to pack in as much fun between responsibilities as I can. Mostly meaning I've been riding the bikes a bunch. I...

Man, I didn't know you had 7 years.
Although I've been fortunate enough to keep my drinking under control, I had to quit everything else many years ago.
I know a lot of sober folks and know how important it is and what a struggle.
I'm glad you're getting back to where you're feeling better quickly.
7 is just a number, it's how you feel that's important.

Not doing so hot.

3 months ago I broke my collar bone. Didn't bother to tell the doctor I am a recovering drug addict/alcoholic. Eventually I took a handful of Vicodin and I'm off & running. All through recovery I've had this idea (which I have tried out before, btw) that if I just smoke pot I'll manage alright. Doesn't get me into serious trouble...

I seem to be pretty much done with posting here so I probably won't renew when the time comes. I've enjoyed SG a lot & especially appreciated the SGVegas group & the sobriety group. Anyone who would like to can add me to their facebook. I've only started using it & I don't (at least yet) spend much time on it, but I'd love to...
