So I almost died in Colorado. Ok not really, dad almost died. My brother-in-law & I did alright. Or at least we kept up appearances while almost dying which is pretty much as important as living really. Gordon lost his wedding ring to the river. I got a cut on the inside of my ear (??) but not a scratch anywhere else. Twice last year we rented some kyaks and had a go at a mellow part of the Yampa River. We all agreed that was pretty boring and we totally need more action. So we picked the most reasonable part of the Cache La Poudre River (call it the pooter, it's fun to say!) We didn't think about the fact that not only were the rapids going to be a couple classes above what we'd previously seen, but also it's peak water season. Last year we went in August & September when the rivers are lower. I have no desire to go kyaking anymore, tubing seems 100 times more rational. If you lose your tube, go swim and get it or let the cheap fucker go. With a kyak (unless you learn how to roll and who has time for that?) you go swim to grab the big expensive 300lb (full of water now) plastic log that's going where the river wants it to go. Oh and don't forget to hang on to the paddle too. What, now you don't have a third hand to swim with? That's alright, the current is mostly too strong to swim anyhow. We were each totally fucked at least twice. For what it's worth, when I do die I would love to die in the pooter because I'd get to have this on my gravestone:
