I watched Slacker last night. It was as entertaining as it was 15(?) years ago. My favorite character is still the delusional 70 year old anarchist who will blow up the Texas legalature someday.
Here's a little quote he read to a new friend (they met while he was burglurizing the old anarchist's home) upon parting ways.
"To those humans in whom I have faith: I wish suffering, being forsaken, sickness, maltreatment, and humiliation. I wish that they should not remain unfamiliar with profound self contempt, the torture of self mistrust, and the misery of the vanquished. I have no pity for them because I wish them the only thing that can prove today whether one is worth anything or not, that one endures." He then gives the burgler back his pistol & waves goodbye.
Probably a quote from some historic anarchist or something. No, I wish you no suffering, freinds
. However, I'm often struck with just how pleasant my life is. It can be slightly unsettling for an aging punk who prides himself on his abitlity to ignore suffering. (mostly self- caused emotional and mental suffering, mind you) Believe me, I'm not complaining. It's just my way of relishing the surrounding goodness. At any rate, if things look bleak, don't lose hope.
Sometimes the most bleak scenerios have a way of straightening out.

Dude.

It's weird when life is going smoothly and domesticated, after years of courting chaos, confusion, and self-destruction.
