My brother-in-law Gordon and myself down at the river by Nelson, NV.
Nelson is a tiny little mining town, although there's no real mining there now. All over these parts there are abandoned mines which provide much quality entertainment to adventurous youth and a resting place for sleepy bats. The mines are mostly horizontal into the side of a mountain, you rarely happen upon one with a mine "shaft" into which you could fall. The river is actually lake mojave, but some of us refer to the upper half (which still moves along) as the river. One of my most favorite places is the hot springs, just below the hoover dam. It's a 7 mile hike down from the road, or you could get there by sea-doo or jet boat until a couple years ago when they stopped allowing boat traffic up that far. I was looking forward to the decrease in people at the springs (even though it was never actually crowded or anything). But at about the same time, they closed off hiking access due to construction of an enormous bridge to route traffic around the dam. There are some other hot springs on the Arizona side of the dam, but they've always been more crowded since the hike is much shorter and there's only 1 real pool.

i visited this particular spring in the summer, but at night, when it was (to me, at least) freezing. the one you describe sounds lovely.
why am i awake so early? i sleep til at least 10 every frickin day. i'm all pumped, like a little kid. guess i'm pretty psyched to give away all the presents i've been gathering in secret (for friends, extended fam).
