Lyndon is kind of hard to read because most people end up just HATING the main character. He's a little more sympathetic in the film, although the film is very long (very kubrick-esque). I was expecting to hate both the film and the book, but I actually quite liked them, even though they're both kind of slow (you read the first 50 pages of lyndon and he's STILL talking about his family tree)

Vanity Fair is in your favourite books, I'm assuming that the Thackery one? Have you read "Barry Lyndon"? I read it for a class on Stanley Kubrick films last year and was surprised to like it. Also, you have great taste in movies.
