I've been an SG member since January or February and never made a journal entry. I guess I'll just put some words down so at least there is something to look at for the next 8 months until I write anothr entry.
Last night I talked with a family at the airport who had been stuck at the Hyatt hotel across from the Superdome in New Orleans all week. Their stories were amazing. They told me there were around 4,000 people stuck in the hotel and most days all they got to eat was an apple for breakfast, a bottle of water, and then a small meal for dinner.
People like the Mayor of New Orleans, FEMA directors, and the other political types were staying on the 4th floor. The family told me that the hotel staff was preparing them gourmet meals such as steak and wine, sometimes fish, lasagna. And of course the left overs were thrown out.
The hotel guests were told there was not much food or water but at night they could smell the food being cooked in the kitchen. At one point the gentlemen I was speaking to said he snuck down to the kitchen and stole a couple tray of lasagna for the people in his room.
As they were finally leaving the hotel he came across a storage room full of water and soda. They were so upset that they took it and just started handing it out to strangers.
It appears no one is looking out for anyone in New Orleans...it's take care of yourself and screw everybody else.
Once the family was able to get out of the hotel and to the airport taxi drivers were charging between $150 and $200 for airport transfers.
It's sad how people take advantage of others misery. My sympathy is growing smaller everyday
tat2goddess:
that is seriously fucked up, and i have to agree with your whole sympathy comment. it's amazing to me that when people are in need, how some tend to be more selfish then ever in their sad little pathetic lives.
