Being a movie geek I see a lot of films, a lot of them are good. I know I slated "No Country for Old Men" recently and was quite unfair because in many ways it is fantastic. But I didn't love it. Same goes for "Cloverfield", really enjoyed watching it, didn't love it.
Why? They have no soul. There's nothing there behind the image you're watching. You can appreciate the skill it took to make them but you take nothing away.
Which brings me to "Juno". I like to think of myself as a proper bloke that wouldn't cry if you told him his entire family had died. However the story of a teenage girl that finds herself pregnant had me in tears. I fucking loved it, and am kinda glad I didn't see it in the movies (escorting a teary eyed bloke out of the cinema might of been a bit much for my friends). Same thing nearly happened during "Knocked Up" thankfully I had a moment to compose myself.
Anyway its brilliant. Shame all the Oscars will go to Daniel Day Lewis and his acting in "There Will Be Blood". Ellen Page and "Juno" deserve to sweep the board.
Actually if theres any justice "Ratatouille" will win all the awards. If only for that moment towards the end with the stuff and the thing that makes your heart ache.
Anyway "Juno", go see. Now!
