So like today i got some code accepted upstream for gnome-volume-manager. I can finally put a CD into my cdrom drive, and have an icon appear on my desktop. Such little things matter to me.
C sucks though. Badly. Pointers are confusing. The language has no discoverability. Well, it doesn't suck. It just sucks differently than everything else. I think I can get used to it though. It ain't as bad as Lisp or anything.
We are getting close to having a viable open source desktop stack though.
