I went to an authoritative lecture tonight that I knew would present an OPTIMISTIC theory about economics and environmental issues. A rare thing.

I went because I am very worried about the future of the world. I vote Green, protest etc. But I think that, if you have a strong view about a subject, you should ALWAYS seek out authoritative (or even just passionate) views that might test it.

Thoughts? Do you do this? Do you think your (emotional) life would be better if you discovered that you were very wrong about something you care about? Sometimes it's good to be put straight, no?

Incidentally, I find it interesting how this thing is called a "subject" even when, like with me and Green issues, it seems to control ME! It burns me up and makes me a slave to it's compelling arguments.

Just for completeness, here's what I went to tonight:

Full Globalisation as a Positive-Sum Game: Green Demand as an Answer to the Financial Crisis
Ralph Miliband Series on the Future of Global Capitalism

Date: Tuesday 18 May 2010
Time: 6.30-8pm
Venue: Old Theatre, Old Building
Speaker: Professor Carlota Perez
Chair: Professor Mary Kaldor

Drawing lessons from history, this lecture will argue that the potential of information technologies, the challenges of the environment and the scope for re-specialisation in the globalised economy could bring about a sustainable global 'golden age'.

Carlota Perez is research associate in CFAP/CERF at the University of Cambridge and professor of technology and development at Tallinn University of Technology.

This event is supported by the LSE Annual Fund.

as a kid I used to say spring is the best season, because it was my bday, then growing up i said summer, thats when school was off.
But I think I really like summer the best. but I have to agree, after a big rough winter, spring bring all joy back
