I've spent 8 hours gardening and landscaping this weekend. Boring? For you maybe but for me it's really fulfilling to see my first own home transform into an emotionally nourishing place. Every aching muscle in my body (and there are plenty) is like a proud war wound.

But yes - because t's boring to read about I won't write any more about that.

One odd thing is that I seem to be surrounded by Christians. Two different neighbours of mine love to have their windows wide open while Jesus-loving music and speeches pour out loudly from their TV or soundsystem. They also refuse to recycle (apparently because many Christians can't wait for the world to end, so can see recylcing as pointless). However they can also be incredibly nice - for example the chap above me decided to move his bed to the smaller room at the other end of his maisonette, just because his squeaking floorboards above my bedroom were frustrating me at night (I'm a hardcore atheist, but I assume a Christian is more likely to do a 'love thy neighbour' gesture like that than an atheist, yeah?)

Ramble over. I feel a bit euphoric right now and, like someone on cocaine, I'm sure it's much more exciting for me than it is for anyone listening.

I've never reached a place where gardening is anything but a chore for me, but I can definately see the benefits from that sense of ownership, having a project and something to instil pride. I guess because my job is essentially project management, I like to have all my free time fluid and a garden is too much commitment.

I think Christians are like all social subsets. They are as likely to be nice, rude, hypocritical, happy, sad etc as anyone else. Lucky you for getting the good ones!

interesting, I did not know that. John Wayne Gacy sent my dad a letter once.
