Huh. You'd think there'd be a reply button on the comments left in the journal, instead of just "add a comment" at the bottom... this is therefore going to be a bit more one-way than I expected...

You know what I miss? Flying saucers. They went away (as did the Bible country version, "angel sightings"). They seem to pop up at weird cultural stress points -- the mid-to-late 90s, say, which The X-Files lucked into (rather than caused). The millennium was the weird light at the end of the tunnel and everyone thought Something Was Going To Happen. And nothing happened. The 20th Century instead ended something like a year and nine months later. Maybe people see terrorists instead of UFOs now.

I remember going into the Sci-Fi Channel in LA a couple of years back, and, as our car paused by the gate, a bored security guard came out and lazily waved a long-handled broom under our car. I found out later that this was done in case Osama Bin Laden was clinging to the chassis.

Of course, if he had been, they may never have made MANSQUITO. It's one of those difficult choices. Like weighing the deaths of everyone in Africa against Bob Geldof and Midge Ure making another bloody version of "Do They Know It's Christmas?"

I'm writing an episode of this today. Back later.

scarecrow:
Interesting thing...

The symptoms of having been struck by lightning are almost identical to those reported by abductees...

The bright light, the loss of time, etc...

And how about all those little bits of metal people seem to find in ther bodies?

Something akin to electroplating?

So why no alien/angels lately? Too many real problems maybe? Haven't these cycles matched prosperous times? The 50s? The 90s?

Hmmmmm... If I cared more I'd do real research.

I miss sleep...

And i heard once that Ketamine was responsible for a lot of UFO encounters in the US... encounters with Witches here for some reason... can't remember the source though.
