Good things don't come to those who wait.
Do not take the path of least resistance and hope to get anywhere you want to go.

If you have a dream you've got to work towards it don't be distracted or diverted, not even by the people you love. And if it means hurting their feelings then so be it. If they're really special to you it won't matter. If not then don't worry in a few years these people will just be memories to you.
