Next Ix gig:

Flatland, Narwhal, Ix, The City That Shrinks Me, 22/10/06, Canons Gait
Cold Dead Hands Presents

Flatlands
Making a welcome return to Edinburgh after last year's tour with Red Stars Parade and Naked Shit, these Lincoln boys claim they sound like the monotony of the countryside where they grew up- in reality, Flatlands are seriously heavy in a stripped-down Isis style, which monolithic, catchy riffs crashing into each other and plenty of screaming.
Here's a review of their split with Sunshine Republic from Nine Hertz webzine:

"They are a heavier proposition of band hitting you straight away with riffage that is quiet delectable and some superb screaming from singer Mike, the immense amounts of reverb on the voice making him sound stunningly disturbed! The backing vocals provided by the bass player Simon provide a nice more melodic texture against the harsh-as-fuck screams. The structuring of each of the songs here is superb and the sound is more mature than their year existence, with crushing bass lines and pounding drums augmented by dynamic guitar lines and crushingly brilliant screams. These guys are new contenders to the crown. In a world where too many bands copy more established acts, Flatlands take their rural monotony of life and provide it with thrilling dynamic music."

Narwhal
This London based 5 piece play hectic, heartfelt riff-based screaming hardcore that bashes one minute and caresses the next, with the feel of those great mid-90's bands to the fore- think Portraits Of The Past, Frail etc.
New 7 inch on Super Fi Records, home of some of the finest UK underground acts, such as Army Of Flying Robots, Snowblood etc.

Ix
Central Scotlands heaviest band return, laying to rest fear of their hibernation. Not much to say about them I've not said before- crushing Neurosis/Grief influenced D-O-O-M, their recent split cd with Naked Shit went to even bleaker and blacker places than they've been before, one of the most accomplished releases by a local band for a while. Liable to cause severe internal injuries in the close confines of the Canon's Gait basement.

The City That Shrinks Me
