I love my wife. Usually she has the grace of a gazelle and the balance of a ballerina. Unfortunately she has not displayed these skills the last several days. She decided to sit on the floor with her kindergarten class so she could teach them a great lesson. Well she put her left hand out on the way down and somehow she sprained her wrist. Of course she is a dedicated teacher and carried on without alarming the kids or stopping class. As she finished the lesson she gave the kids something to do at their desks and quietly contacted the office to send an aide to take over for her briefly. She then went down and saw the school nurse who gave her an ice pack. Thankfully it was near the end of the day and so one of the office secretaries drove her and the boys home. I grabbed a taxi to the train station and caught an early train home. Once I got home I took her to the hospital while the neighbors fed the kids dinner. Our wait in the emergency room was short and the doctor ordered x-rays of her arm and wrist. The results came back negative and the doctor told her that she probably only had a sprained wrist. The nurse came into the room and wrapped her wrist in an ace bandage and we were on our way. We got home and the boys were disappointed that she did not have a cast which they could sign but they were happy that she did not break anything. She went to work and her kids were so happy to be able to help her with stuff she needed help with. She came home and had so many cute stories to tell. But my wife is also stubborn. Instead of waiting for me to get home and help her carry the laundry baskets downstairs she decided to carry them all by herself. Well with one arm she did not make it all the way down with all the baskets. She fell down and came to rest with her foot against the wall. I just got off the train with my phone ringing and when I answered it I had the frantic shouts of the boys that Mom fell and hurt herself. I raced home and walked in the door and there sat my beautiful bride with two black and swollen toes. So I called the neighbors again and told them that the wife had injured herself once more and could they watch the kids. They said yes and so I sent the boys over and off we went to the hospital. So I walk in carrying my wife who has her wrist in a bandage and her ugly looking toes in the air. We get the same nurse and doctor and they just shake their heads in disbelief at her story. Off to x-ray she goes and I head off to the cafeteria for some food. I have great raisin toast and soggy veggies for dinner and race back to the wife. It turns out that the one toe is just bruised but the other has a hair line fracture. The doctor tapes them up, gives her a lovely blue shoe, crutches, and sends her home. She looks so cute hobbling into the house. The boys are again upset as now she has broken something but does not have a cast to sign. The doctor told her that she could return to work but needed to keep her foot up. So my wife went to work and the kindergarten class wanted to know what she did. They asked all kinds of questions and wanted to give her hugs and give her love. I sent her a flower bouquet wrapped in bubble wrap and she called me and left me a foul mouthed message in response. Then she called back and left another message laughing hysterically. Guess that tells you about our strange sense of humor and our relationship. Hopefully she will heal well and end this run of klutziness.
