I am left handed and proud of it. We are a minority group who will never receive equality with our other handed majority as they have stacked the deck against us. In order to seek equality we have to ask for equal rights but we do not want that, we want equal lefts. The United States Constitution has a Bill of Rights but no Bill of Lefts. I guess lefthanders are left out of the Constitution. If we are not right then we are wrong. In baseball we are limited by our left handedness to the positions of outfield, first base, or pitcher. If one of us is a good pitcher we are given the awesome nickname Lefty or referred to as a southpaw. When is the last time a good right handed pitcher was called Righty or northpaw? In the armed forces and in marching bands everyone is taught to march as one unit, a right footed unit. If you think learning to march is hard for a right footed person imagine how much harder it is for a left footed person. We have walked all our lives left footed and now we are being told that is the wrong way to march. Left and right footed people put a different foot forward to make that first step. Why do the armed forces and bands have to march right footed? I believe in a democracy there should be majority rule but minority lefts should be protected. I believe sidewalks should have special left footed walking lanes for only left footed people. I am tired of walking down the sidewalks among my right footed brethren and getting tripped up or tangled in the out of step right footed peoples feet. With special left footed walking lanes I could safely traverse the sidewalks and avoid the clumsy right footed world. Movie theatres, sports arenas, bars and restaurants should also have designated left handed rows and areas. During a show my right arm rests on the arm rest while my left hand will reach for the soda or popcorn. If I have someone who is right handed sitting next to me they always want to rest their left hand on my right arm rest. This causes some difficulties. If there were left handed only rows there would be no such difficulties. Thankfully my wife and sons are all left handed. When we go out to dinner with right handed people we have to juggle seats so that a left hander does not sit to the right of a right hander. Otherwise there is that awkward elbow bumping. Maybe we should have designated left handed seats to prevent this from occurring. Computer and IT departments should be required to accommodate left handers by setting up computer mice with left handed tails. It is not a big deal but it again reflects the discrimination against left handed people that pervades our society. Door with handles should be required to have signs posted on them indicating whether they turn to the right or left. Left handed people have a tendency to turn knobs one way and right handed people the opposite. Again the standard favors right handers and discriminates against left handers. Surprise surprise. Vending machines have the coin slots on the right so the right hander can easily put deposit their money with their right hand. What about a left hander? Right handers carry things in their left hand so they can do things with their right/dominate hand. Well left handers carry things in their right hand so they can do things with their left hand/dominate hand. But in a right handed world we often have to switch hand in order to accomplish so goal as the right handed world is not accommodating to our needs. That is why we ask for our equality, our equal lefts!
