When I was a boy I read a short story called Sredni Vashtar by "Saki" (the pen name for Hector Hugh Munro). The story concerns a little boy living under the guardianship of his cousin.
Unfortunately she doesn't particularly like little boys and is very strict with him so he leads an unhappy life. However, he finds an outlet for his pent up frustrations. He secretly makes a pet of a polecat ferret, naming it Sredni Vashtar and, in his imagination, he builds up a mythology around his fierce little pet. One day his cousin attempts to get rid of Sredni Vashtar but it kills her.
Imagine my surprise to discover a song named "Sredni Vashtar"!!
