How should a BBC reporter handle a hostile interview?
Take a look at this video on the BBC website. It is a short clip from a Panorama programe called "Scientology and Me". BBC reporter John Sweeney, is shown around an exhibition hosted by the Church of Scientology called "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death" in which a scientologist appears to be blaming psychiatrists for encouraging certain aspects of the Nazi Holocaust (which, even if true is clearly of no relevance to the question of the validity of psychiatry today, as modern psychiatry does not advocate such practices). John is then challenged by a scientologist called Tommy Davis concerning the way that he had conducted an interview. When John attempts to reply , Tommy simply talks over him. When John asks him to stop and listen, Tommy refuses and continues on with quite an aggressive tone of voice at which point John completely loses it and starts shouting his head off!!! John appears to be shouting that as Tommy was not at the interview and as Tommy's objections only make reference to the second half of the interview, not the first half, his objections to the manner in which John conducted the interview are without validity.
