You read it right, dear. I first got my license when I was 16, but when I was living in Germany for 2 years, it expired and I didn't have a way to renew it from Munich. Then when I moved back to the USA, it was too much pain in the ass to get it activated again. They told me I needed to take the written exam again and then take a driving test too. Well, I didn't have a car then so I said "Fuck it!" and so I was without a license for the last 8 years or so.
