The Dia De Los Muertos festival was AWESOME! The art, culture, music, and especially the food were amazing. The spirit of the festival hit really close to home. Yesterday I attended the funeral of a man I've known for almost 20 years. I gave him directions to the place where he met his wife and soulmate when he first moved to town. Dia de los Muertos is about remembering and honoring the dead and I was definitely thinking of those people that have gone before me as I wondered the street today. The only thing that I found to be a bit of a downer was the corporations that took booths at the festival, but I feel the same way about that at the Chinese New Year festival too. I find it odd to see corporations soliciting for money from this culture when you know that the heads of these same corporations are voting for the militarization of the Mexican border. But I guess that's capitalism.
