For those that don't know, which I imagine is everyone, I'm a news junkie. This is a fairly new aspect of my personality, within the last two years, spurred mainly by following the 2008 Presidential Election-- specifically, Barack Obama. Oh, sure, I used to watch my fair share of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, and read the occasional New York Times op-ed pieces, but those don't really count. However, this year, and much of it due to free time on my job, I have to get my daily fix of news (real news, not local broadcasts or Good Morning, America) or I go a little nutty wondering the hell I missed.

Today I read something worth sharing, though, it is admittedly not really "news":

I enjoy Andrew Sullivan's blog on the Atlantic Monthly website. Not regularly, as I have too many blogs to keep track of, but on occasion I find him to be quite entertaining and, relatively (for the blogosphere), thoughtful. I even enjoy, as this article seems to condemn, his love for paradoxes and contradictions. As a fan of dichotomies, a cousin to both those aforementioned concepts, I admit to having affinity for conservative reverie of President Obama (Christopher Buckley's blog at The Daily Beast is another example of this, as are NPR/PBS's David Brooks' usually level-headed commentaries). Still, I love the closing line of this rebuke, a twist on an Orwell quote from Sullivan's own blog: Not everything one needs to see is in front of one's nose. Until we can look our own brains directly in their frontal lobes, this sentiment will always hold true.

Also, I watched the Oscars last night (meh) and while I wasn't disappointed to see Sean Penn win his second statue (especially considering the speech he gave), I would've loved to see Mickey Rourke reprise the speech he gave at the Independent Spirit Awards:

Finally, for those of you who like comics, especially web comics, I suggest you check out this guy's experiment. As a web comic creator myself (granted, I'm not terribly good at it), I found this exceptionally interesting and inspiring. The mind stands pat, in crippled awe of the possibilities.

The convention was so crazy busy yesterday. It's been a lot of fun. Today should be mellow but awesome. Hopefully pictures will start rolling in soon.
