it's a rainy, foggy day here in San Antonio. it definitely qualifies for that "dreary" label.

Came down yesterday afternoon to replace my friend, Maria's, furnace unit. Her's has been no end of trouble. I replaced the fan motor on it last year...less than a year ago...and then it broke down again. It was a crappy model anyway...low low low end. Her repair company that works on her condo wanted to charge her more to replace the latest broken part than it cost for us to get her an entirely new furnace. Like...three times more. I hate that. It's up and running, but now I have to go and find an acetylene/oxygen torch handle. Apparantly mine broke on the way down from Austin in the back of the truck and when I went to light it...it exploded. rather spectacularly, but without any injury beyong makeing my right hand hairless (and there's people who pay for that stuff right?) so hopefully I can get a new torch tip at Lowe's or something to weld the copper back together. Right now her heat and fan work, but no a/c til I get that fixed.

Went and saw Love in the Time of Cholera night before last with Katy. Excellently done. Very pleased. I was worried that there was no way that they could squeeze that book and all its emotion into a feature length film. They did a pretty good job of it. There were a few moments that felt rushed, but most of the movie had that slow, languid feeling of Marquez's writing. Javier Bardem and Giovanna Mezzogiorno did wonderfully. Thier aging was well done aside from the odd moment of way to obvious pancake makeup. Benjamin Bratt did a decent job as Dr. Urbino. And the music was beautiful.

today...given time, I think Maria wants to go see the Beowulf IMAX 3D (MULTISTORY EXTRAVAGAAAAAANZA! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!) this afternoon. maybe we'll have time before heading back. If I can get that damn copper welded.
