good sunday.

slept in late. My only big requirement for the day was a trip to the grocery store. Well. I also still had a gift card for Barnes and Ignoble books stores so I figured I'd go and see if I could use it (given my current financial status the goal was to see how much I could use without going over the worth of the card). So I went down to the bookstore....and as often happens...picked out a couple books I wanted pretty quickly and spent another two hours wandering around, leafing through other books that looked interesting and debating switching out books for the two I already held in my hand. I was very tempted to get American Gods by Neil Gaiman in paperback as it was pretty inexpensive and I could have gotten a third book or a nice motorcycle or foreign policy magazine. But I've already read it so, instead I stuck to my intent of buying a couple books...one non-fiction and one fiction that I've been wanting to read. I ended up bringing home Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and Shade by Neil Jordan . I used to have a collection of Neil Jordan short stories I really liked. Have no idea where they went. And I've always been interested in Marcus Aurelius.
been doing a lot of reading the last week actually. Read thru
jarhead and some Ambrose Bierce stories.
So from there I went to the HEB Marketplace in Austin. I'd been to the one in San Antonio but not the one up here. Great place for food for people who have money. Great quality and interesting stuff. the place smells great and with a wine selection to murder for...but I don't have money so I went to the regular HEB and purchased what I needed for less than $8 rather than spend $20.
came home and made a nice dinner since I hadn't eaten anything. made my favorite soup.
took a can of tomato soup, mixed with only a half can of water (would have used milk but I was out). warm that up real hot and mix in diced red onion, diced tomato, garlic pepper and rosemary, thin slices of sharp cheddar until they're all blended in and then right at the end mix in crumbled up tortilla chips and a healthy dose of salsa. I've considered adding in shredded chicken breast, but it's already a pretty deep soup as it is.
had that with a roasted turkey and sharp cheddar sandwich on toasted potato bread with sliced tomato and red onion. full and happy. dessert: decaf Cafe Du Monde coffee and some peanut butter fudge left in my freezer from the holidays.
I am fat and happy.

didn't update about the holidays...wasn't much to say and really wasn't feeling....updatey. Other than watching the Rose Bowl and my youngest brother having his appendix taken out this weekend...it's been pretty calm. Work has gotten WAY slow like I thought it would be last month. only worked two days last week. this week must go better or I am going to be in trouble.

and I still need to find a way to fly Katy down for her birthday....and perhaps for good? that's something we're working on.
