Ok...been more than a while since I updated this. We've been keeping pretty damn busy, pushing through this final stretch. Working in the training department office has been some fun and a lot of head ache, but if all the stuff I set up continues to run, then I'll be happy. The Italians are a daily pain in the ass, but we're all working toward...

Yea, I've got two boards, clearing on post housing, I have two classes I have to do, renee my registration on my truck, get my new place set up, and I have to re-do my security clearance ....plus airborne school coming up in September.
given the history, I find it entirely appropriate that I am putting on body armor and a helmet and grabbing my loaded rifle....to go visit the dentist:
"home" again. made the convoy trip up to Camp Stone near Herat City...got to hang out for a couple of days...ate some unhealthily delicious food...went to a coffee shop at 10pm...slept in late...and went to get a tooth...

Well sounds like you had a decent time back...somewhat.

Yep, nothing assures frustration better than cooperative operations. You stay sane and safe.

I came home from my trip to your letter & postcard.
Thank you so much! I am hoping to see the boys soon. I miss them terribly, almost as much as I miss you. There's a ridiculous amount of love for you here in NYC; can't wait until you're back and can celebrate.
I'm still waiting on my friend to send me some of the thousands of photos he took during our trip. He works long hours and doesn't have much time to sort through them, but I can't wait to see what he came up with.

Thank you, Sir, much appreciated.
Welcome to admin. The only benefit being on desk duty is that you can effect many more field folks lives for the better than if you were out of doors with the boys & girls yourself. Creating clear path can be very, very rewarding. Best wishes.

been a few weeks, huh? time just keeps grinding/gliding along.
birthday passed without any real incident. spent the day working on the range with students. this'll have been my 4th birthday in a foreign country...not the worst one. and however many others spent working in uniform. The Thursday before my birthday, the local contractor guys here had a cookout and I was given a cake....

Thank you Sir. Glad things seem to be going pretty well for you over there. The girl and I keep looking for pictures of Grrr! She regularly bugs me to ask how Grrr! is doing. Can't wait to collect that HUG in person.
It's been a busy couple of weeks. Brought in a whole new crop of students and, by next week, all the students that were here when I arrived in Adraskan will have graduated.
I've been spending most of my time designing an advanced firearms course, from scratch: building a curriculum, creating training materials, teaching aides, and evaluation forms. These students really need it. As of...

Thanks for your appropriately thorough response. Sounds as though you have a narrow set of parameters to work with and that you are putting your energy into what will best serve the intent of the mission, which is perfect. No news to you but its a nearly impossible situation for the trainees, particularly if the political climate tilts ever so slightly in one direction or another.
I am no expert in the intricacies of the region but have some first hand experience from a billion years ago when there was a superpower trying to make its stamp on the area and it wasn't us. I'm still unclear on much of the reasoning around what went down and I'm still not okay with a lot of it, but I made it through and in all seriousness that's something I am proud of.
I am pleased to hear that there are attempts to screen out warlord aparatchiks, because those guys are bad news. Steer well clear of that stuff, if you'll take the advice of an old hand.
Thanks again and best wishes.

That is too bad. What a shitty way to suddenly go.
Costa Rica is nice. I would highly suggest staying out of San Jose. It is pretty much a shit hole. I rented a house in the jungle around the beach a number of years ago in Nosara, which was nice. First time seeing howler monkeys and iguanas that could easily kick my ass!
You know I have a hard time with shadow boxing. I'm not sure why. I mean, I dance alone all the time and do not feel goofy. But I do recognize that I will not use the mirror to shadow box in even more specifically. Weird, but I'm uncomfortable looking in mirrors. I had not recognized that until this last round of training. *shrug*
Staying safe, not a bad thing.
Take care you.

It is a truly amazing picture. I keep coming back just to look at it. Something about the colors just draw you in. And thank you for the advice on the sunburn. It's fading okay. Aloe is working pretty well, thank goodness.

Thanks - TX won't be the same without catching up with you but there will always be the next road trip. When are you getting back?
Freekin' fantastic day off of work. Played some football on a helicopter landing pad, good lunch, and finally received some of my Amazon order (little netbook NEEDED these speakers), and finally saw Despicable Me.
more serious note: Holy Shit, Pacific Coast and Islands....hold on tight. Be hoping for the best for you. ![]()

Yeah, nobody really knows what to make of the potential radiation. At least the Tsunamis were minimal here. I have many friends in the part of Japan where the waves were really awful and am not looking forward to the news I am pretty sure is coming about some of them.
I hope your next day off is as good as the last one.

So true, and while we expect the authorities to take a posture of "order will be maintained" the shift in news outlets approach is really not of any help, anywhere, ever. Once upon a time the news was, at its best, simply the news, being reported and known facts and when presented at all separated from possibilities as a result of news very clearly. Now it seems as though editorializing and far worse passes for news reporting. My mother was a journalist and editorial writer and knew well the difference. She would be appalled at what passes for reporting today. I have an old merc friend who was in Sendai and who is also fine and helping, but his accounts differ from the official and media line so much that its hard to merge the three. Its as thought I am hearing about three different events as opposed to the same one.
I understand things are getting more active and hope you have continued success and that you stay well.
