SEE THE MOHAMMED CARTOONS HERE
Although most newspapers in North America have decided not to print these cartoons, I think it's important (and I agree completely with the two other links above if you take the time to go read them) to understand exactly what the violence is really all about, and it's important to see the hypocrisy that's going on. Muslin extremists in the middle east have been printing disgusting cartoons depicting horrid acts against the Jewish people for years (for example, Hitler in bed with Anne Frank, post-coital, telling her to go record it in her diary). Now go look at these 12 cartoons (in the link above) and draw your own conclusions.
Ask yourself why these cartoons aren't being reprinted in North America, and then ask yourself how many people there are around you who are shaking their heads at the "foolishness" of that Denmark newspaper for printing such APPARENTLY horrid, racial cartoons... and THEN ask yourself... or even ask the people around you if THEY'VE EVEN SEEN THE CARTOONS! I bet you they haven't. And that, aside from the violence and death threats and all that other fun stuff going on in Europe, is something we need to keep in mind. I think these need to be printed here, so that we can understand the true ridiculousness of the situation, and how blown out of proportion it has become.
The SG Political News post has some very ineteresting comments about how images of Mohammed can be found throughout the middle east, in market places etc. I also read in the Toronto Star that nowhere in the Kuran does it actually say that creating images of Mohammed is forbidden.
Personally, I don't think the Danish newspaper did anything wrong, and I commend those European nations who are reprinting the cartoons in a show of solidarity to promote freedom of expression. Unlike OTHER North American countries... who EXTEND APOLOGIES for something they didn't even do. What bull shit.

That's why I only pay the vaguest attention to the news anymore. I'll skim the newspaper just so I know of any major things going on. I pick up on some of the more horrific shit going on that isn't as reported on the SG news wire, and otherwise I try to ignore it. There are enough things to make me angry in the world without the news. With the news I am like a rage machine who's sole purpose is to skulk around mumbling angry shit all day.
