listening to a bunch of old vinyl at my mom's....mine, not hers. She's got all this old Stax Sam and Dave, Otis Redding, Joe Tex type stuff. Otis is the man.

standouts in the almost new year: Husker Du: New Day Rising; Pavement: Slanted/Enchanted; Minutemen: what makes a man start fires?....and Best of the Isley Brothers.

back in Colorado after the holidays. what a ride. Portland, ABQ, and Dallas. Got to see my niece Nora (now 1.5 years)....what a sweetie she is.

flying sucks. airports suck.

so i'm at the grocery store, standing in the check -out aisle. like the good lemming. the magazine racks....such bad consciousness there. celebrity horseshit. who cares? transparent window into the cultural psychosis. how many times can Cosmo print a list of "10 Sex Tricks" that will make you a tiger in the bedroom (without being slutty)....or something. i hope someone is cataloging all these tricks...some...

The fine line between what we do and what we want to do.

"no one ever went broke over-estimating the vulgarity of the american people". i first this quote in a Kurt Vonnegut novel, pretty sure. but i see the same thing in a lot of other places.

is it Vonnegut, or some creepy ad exec (veritas!) like Eddie Bernays?

listening to a lot of Desmond Dekker and live Feelies from 85 i guess....thinking that the winamp shuffle algorithm is bullshit.

noticing that Smyth and Succor are no longer active on the site. sad. some cool, beautiful women from what little i know.

that bodysuit banner ad is pretty hot.

my sister emails me that Gang of Four was on NPR. she stole a bunch of my vinyl, but hey. now she knows. now she sends me emails about G4. "my job is done here". would like to have those flaming lips original colored vinyls back....and hatful of hollow. NPR is a bit weak IMO, but hell Gf4. best guitar sound ever. note the sub...

i always thought this was a pretty cool, if not post-punk overlord type tune from Husker Du's drummer....Grant Hart. Mould gets all the love, but Hart had many great, earnest straight ahead punk rock Husker classics. this is a little dif, with ? and the Mysterions feel....

nickstone:
I saw Nova Mob some years ago. I do own each track Hsker D recorded. I love the hommage the Posies did about Grant Hart. It seems he is not really going well these days. I saw recent videos of him, playing live. It was quiete sad in some way.

at this point in time in human history, it's entirely possible that every college aged girl on every campus in the United States will be wearing black tights and Uggs boots *at the same time*. what then?

the ancient Stoics believed that when all the potentialities became actual (as they inevitably would)....the world would consume itself in a cleansing fire.

what's the deal with this??

I doubt even the Stoics could have predicted the horror of that particular fashion trend.

Also the hipster hat has been in full force for like a year at least, just not in the same crowd. :\
78walk:
Ha - there is a college campus within easy walking distance of my house, but I rarely venture over there and was completely unaware of this trend. I suppose the herd instinct will always remain strong...

went and saw DC yesterday at his crib. pretty good time. he's a force of nature and a tremendous pain in the ass for someone in a wheelchair. smoked a little grass, listened to some old Kinks (Muswell, Arthur) and Roland Kirk. went to the culinary outlet and bought him a new knife and a ladle for his spanking new stock pot. comical. two of...

talking with some students about MMJ here in Colorado, decided to re-assign some of Klosterman's Sex Drugs and Cocoa Puffs. Enjoying the reread. Not always sure what to make of Chuck K. His stylisic turn of phrase and "punchline" overstatement owes a great debt to Hunter Thompson and Lester Bangs...his forebears of cult critique. which is by no means a bad thing.
