do you ever wonder what life would be like if you found something that you loved to do so much, in a career, that you wouldn't care if you ever had a vacation? Is there such thing as that? I don't mean being famous, or a model, that wouldn't last forever neccesarily.

I just wish I could find a career that utilized all my talents, paid very well, and something I would never get sick of...

I think I live in a fantasy world thinking that something like that may exist somewhere.

But I will tell you this, after graduating from the University of Oregon, and working in the real world 50 hours a week, I am making fantastic money, but I feel like the best moments of my day are being spent at work.

And all the tired, grumpy, exhausted, depressed times in my life are happening when I am not at work, and all the bright, awake moments, where my creativity is flowing, my energy is up and ready to do something... I am at work.... making money for someone else.

This is why I am getting my MBA so that I don't have to be a fucking slave for the rest of my life.

But you know what, no matter if you work for a boss...or not... if you have your own business you are working for your customers.

Why can't I be a teenager again? god... college was so great.

All my life I've loved games. When I was 13 I couldn't think of anything cooler than designing games for a living. When I grew up, I made it happen. First as a freelance writer, then working as a staff designer and later creative director, and finally starting my own company (which is what I do now). And I work all the time. I literally haven't had a real weekend since the year 2000. Right now I really feel like a need a vacation but I can't take one. And a lot of the joy has been sucked out of my day to day work. I don't know what to tell you really. While it's cool to have a creative job and make a living writing books and designing games, I often find myself wishing that my hobby was still my hobby and that I could just forget about work at the end of the day and all weekend long.

My problem is that any time I've taken something seriously, like school, career change, etc., I lose interest in it (or with creative endeavors like writing or music, get frustrated with it because I so rarely have found that zone where it truly flows out of me). So I made the choice to work at what I do well, get satisfaction from knowing I do it well and can't easily be replaced, and hope that it always pays enough for me to have or do the things I want most. Once I let my natural talents drive what I was willing to do as a career, the money sort of followed. I'd quit in a heartbeat if I won the lottery, but if I'm going to have to work, I'm reasonably happy with what I'm doing right now.
