So I'm listing to an eBook for the first time ever. It's kinda neat, but I think i'd still prefer a real book. The eBook takes up too much of my concentration.
Anyway, it's called "Hegemony or Survival" by Noam Chomsky. Now for those of you who don't know, Noam is a noted linguist from MIT, who has had profound effects on other area's of study, including politics, psychology and I'm sure other stuff I don't know about.
Anywho, this book is about the US and thier policy of keeping everyone else subservient to them, ie Hegemony. He hasn't quite gotten to the survival part of it, but he's making it clear that the US policies meant to keep them in power no matter what could and likely will lead to our eventual distruction.
I've never been a fan of the US anyway, but this guy points out so many ways that the government there and their policies as so skewed, so absolutely not for the populous, and how they have in fact, been the worst "terrorists" of the past century, if not longer.
Don't get me wrong, not saying he, nor I hate americans as people, but really, their government, and governments in general are really quite messed up.
Quick example.
Ask yourself, what was the justification for bombing Kosovo in 1999? If you even recall that event, you will probably answer "The Serbs were killing Albanians". While technically a truth, Serbs did in fact kill Albanians before the airstrikes, the truth is abit more complex then that. We are led to believe that the UN, led by the Americans, bombed in response to these killings, where the truth is that the killings didn't really start until AFTER the bombing. In fact, before the bombing, it is estimated that Serbs killed maybe 500 albanians, where as the albanians, who for your information, were CIA backed, had killed 1500 Serbs by that point. It was only AFTER the bombing that Serbs started a campaign of killing and eviction of the Albanian people.
WHAT you say? Thats what I said. In fact, it has been stated by Albanian's, that they started killing Serbs, under direction of the CIA, specifically to enlisit a the perdictable response from Serbs, ie killing back, so the US would have a justified reason to bomb, and overthrow the incumnent government.
This is only one of MANY MANY examples that Noam Chomsky outlines in this book.
I suggest reading it, or at the very least taking my word on it and hating the American government.
