I learn something everyday! I recently got two hermit crabs. I remember having some in middle school, you could just buy them at the ocean front! But for some reason they never stayed alive. They would give you this plastic tank with some rocks and some food. I thought that's what you needed!
Nope! They need a big tank. With a bowel of fresh and a bowel of salt water. They need sand to dig in, damp sand. This is were the geeky nature thing comes in. Did you know that they don't breathe air?!?! THEY HAVE GILLS! Land hermit crabs have gills! They are modified, but gills! They have to keep them damp. I never knew, but now it makes sense!
I had to buy a small heater to make it humid and I have to spray the tank down daily. Never knew all the work you had to put in to them.
