wow-mardi gras was wonderful, but very exhausting. i will be glad it is over for the next two weeks, but then i will be counting down again. we camped out lundi gras night to secure or space, and so got very little sleep. worth it though. i pity people who just vist the quarter during mardi gras-i would never want to come back. uptown, though,...

is anything more lovely than spending a cold and rainy evening with a bottle of wine and a stack of fashion magazines? not for me! for those following agatha's saga, her condition has stabilized, in no small part, i think, to some of the suggestions that politrix so helpfully gave me. we switched agatha's food and have been giving her a pretty intensive therapy of...

so, agatha (my problem kitty) and i go to the vet to ostensibly get her fixed. we walk out with a 300 dollar vet bill that does NOT inclued her getting fixed or any vaccinations. she has a bad skin condition that the vet can't diagnose, but charged us 40 dollars for, and MAYBE a heart problem (the ekg was fine, but the vet wants...

A (radical vegan) friend of mine had a dog ("Patches the Canine Albino Dancing Circus Bear") who had always had all sorts of problems with a mange-LIKE condition and eventually diagnosed with cancer and given a prognosis of 4-6 months without some $4,800 procedure. "S" (Patches' mom) didn't have the duckage so she started looking around for alternative approaches. She tried the "Raw Meaty Bone" diet for Patches and within two weeks the skin problems were completely gone. In addition, the dog is still around, chasing cats, killing rodents (and a pet rabbit one sad night) and doing other things to mortify her owner, but still... if I had a sick dog I'd look into it.
I remember her saying something to the effect that there's a similar diet for cats. It's based on the premise that you give the animals a diet much much closer to what they have evolved to eat/what they would eat in the wild. Most butchers throw things like bones and stuff away... and with a trip to your local neighborhood butcher you can have them grind up the bones, throw in x amount of meat (there's percentages involved) and haggle on a price that would probably end up being about three or four times what you pay for IAMS or Purina, but at the end of the day, you'd be giving your cat what they've evolved to eat in the first place.
I think "Raw meaty Diet" or "Meaty Bone Diet" would probably come back with a few hits on Google.

I'm not a Vet... I don't profess to have studied the matter. But this is something I'd suggest looking into yourself. Good luck with your cat.

I don't have a cat and my dog passed away two years ago. But she had some similar skin allergy problems and I found and took her to a pet dermatologist in LA. I am sure they have one where you are too. he did a lot of skin tests and found out what she was allergic too and then made a natural serum. I gave her a shot in her neck every month and she never had another problem. you should look into that. Peace to you and your kitty - jase
Back in the Day, or When I Was Popular.
Around ten years ago, when i still lived in the ATL, i was really, really popular. no, really. all the boys and girls wanted to date me. my best friend and i (she even got called my shadow on several unhappy occasions) would go out 5 times a week to the clubs, and the kids would...

Well, what the fuck does popular mean anyway. Just live the life and you'll attract the right crowd. Hell, all us SG folks still look up to you

i met my new neighbors and they are cool! Not such a big deal, but the other peolple that live in my building are over 70 and have lived in this house since 1970 and 1975, respectivly. so it is really nice to have someone with blue hair (and not the old kind) move in. now we won't be the new kids (read:freaks) in the...

At least you came. bud-up-ba! Seriously folks... What books did you get? I am a closet bibliophile. Sorry I haven't been around in a while.
Thanks for you comment the other day on my page.

so. iv'e had two days off, recharging for the hell that will be 13 hours of xmas eve madness. and what have i done? listened to all of the archived editions of "this american life" i could find. i think i am prepared to face the crowds with the requisite amount of cynicism and irony.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll pass it along.
so here in the wonderful world of starbucks, managemant has mandated that we must ask the name of every single customer. apparently someone read one of those lame pop-psycology business books, and decided being on a first name basis with our customers will make them trust us more, and buy more crap. keep in mind that i deal with about 400 customers every day, and...
