i just got back from the DAs office, and we decided to prosecute the kid that mugged me as an adult. i was not pleased with my options: we could either have him prosecuted as a juvenile, where he would have gotten probation and no jail time, or as an adult, where the penalties are 15-104 years in angola. i wanted something more like 3-5 with counseling and education. i wasn't real comfortable with haveing to make that decision. the DA was very nice, but managed to scare me even more as he was talking about the increase of violent crime and the number of people getting shot in the street. joy.
my time with my mom was fabulous though. we ate lots of amazing food, and took a silly tour of the garden district. it was a good break from real life.

Tough choice. Maybe it scared perp#1, too! By prosecuting him as an adult, maybe he will start taking his actions seriously.
We have a random sniper here on the east coast. Crazy stuff. The DA was probably telling the truth.
