Yup, I'm updating again because I have nervous energy I need to expend (is that a word?-oogh...).
I have a job fair tomorrow. PUHLEEEZ let me get a job out of this!!!
I miss my Rachel. I read her journal and it hit me like a sudden punch tto the gut. I really miss her and I really want to be with her. Life can be a cruel bitch like that; you find an awesome someone and every fucking state is between you and them. I haven't held another in a loooong time. Funny the need for human contact. It sucks. Balls even.
So I'm going to draw. Draw draw draw. And watch Mr. and Mrs. Smith. And then maybe Constantine if I'm still concious. I just burped corned beef. ew.
So here are all of my major artistic influences and why:
Haruhiko Mikimoto- I grew up on Robotech and the Macross saga was my first true introduction to anime. And when I saw Love, Do you Remember? it just blew me away. I have always loved his style and he was a major reason I wanted to become a character designer.
Chuck Jones- As a child I was always drawn to the cartoons he directed and produced. His pacing and the looseness of his design is just amazing. And he has that wicked Grinch grin in real life!
Jim Lee- He drew the X-Men the way they should be drawn! And those hips on the women- yipes!
Chris Sanders- I bought the Art of Lilo and Stitch and it just totally amazed me.
Chris Bachalo- The Witching Hour, Death: the High Cost of Living, Death: the Time of Your Life. I love his visual style.
Humberto Ramos- Out There, Crimson, Revelations. He is without a doubt my favorite comic book artist. His pseudo cartoony style combined with his utra detailed backgrounds make it easy to suspend belief indefinitely.
Dave Mckean- the Sandman. I have said enough.
Bill Waterson- I have pretty much worn out every Calvin and Hobbes book I have.
Alex Ross- He makes super heroes real.
Shirow Masamune- I have kept up with him since Black Magic and it's fascinating to watch an artist grow and evolve and hone their craft.
Tuesday- Her art is honest, almost painfully so. Yet it always makes me smile with envy at her talent!
There are plenty of artists that I admire but the above mentioned have a direct influence on me either visually in my own style or just inspiring me to keep on keeping on with my own art.
I highly recommend that anyone who has Finding Nemo on dvd watch the video commentary. It is such an amazing look into the animation and story process. Oh to work for Pixar.... dammit, I'll make it happen somehow!!!
The dreamer in me refuses to die!

Never seen a blue sky
Yeah I can feel it reaching out
And moving closer
There's something about blue
Asked myself what it's all for
You know the funny thing about it
I couldn't answer
No I couldn't answer
Things have turned a deeper shade of blue
And images that might be real
May be illusion
Keep flashing off and on
Free
Wanna be free
Gonna be free
And move among the stars
You know they really aren't so far
Feels so free
Gotta know free
Please
Don't wake me from the dream
It's really everything it seemed
I'm so free
No black and white in the blue
Everything is clearer now
Life is just a dream you know
That's never ending
I'm ascending

It's helped a lot to know others are in the same boat and some good coping techniques. And now, I'm off to google most of those artists. I really need to expand my horizons.
But if you could draw in the style of Brian Froud, you'd be my hero foreva....*coughhintcough*
yeah-- NGE fuckin rules....
