I asked my favorite student yesterday if she had any special plans for Thanksgiving, and she said, "I'm going to listen to my mother cry all weekend."
It seems her brother has a weakness for the pretty ladies on the internet, and so when a pretty internet lady said to him, "Gosh, I seem to have lost my I.D., and I have this money order I just can't cash. Could you send me $5000 and I'll send you the money order to cash?" He thought this sounded like a good idea. Naturally, the money order was counterfeit, so he asked her to replace it. She sent another one, fake as well. Four fake money orders later, Her brother is starting to grok to the idea he might be getting scammed, mainly because he's in jail for trying to cash counterfeit money orders.
Because her family did not entirely arrive in this country by legal means, even though they've been here for seventeen years, her brother is being deported. He's being sent back to Colombia, where he hasn't been since he was six, to live in poverty with some vague relations he's never met.
Moral of the story: Don't trust pretty girls on the internet. Either that, or don't be stupid about it.
I do not plan to listen to my mother cry all weekend, mainly because I'm cutting town. I plan to have a nioce quiet weekend thousands of miles away, filled with gourmet cooking and TV watching. I plan to not leave the house at all, if possible. I plan to not think about what a giant douchebag my boss is, and simply revel in the fact that when I come back, I'll only have one job to do.
Treat each other well, kids, and try to have a better weekend than my favorite student.

this morning a very fucked up thing happened. a man,
who was procuring turkeys for us and some other
americans for thanksgiving, was pulled over at a
"checkpoint". when they found the turkeys they
realised who they were for and put two bullets in the
back of his head.
