I went to my parents house yesterday, because they're out of town. My mother asked if I could water her garden and harvest some stuff, because they have no idea when they're going to be home. They're retired, and like to just roam the countryside in their RV. I got there, and someone had left the shower on in the upstairs bathroom. How do you even leave the shower on when you go on vacation? Well, the shower head was cocked so it was dribbling over the side of the tub and onto the floor, which meant the floor of the upstairs bathroom was lying on the floor of the downstairs bathroom in a wet, swampy mess. I left a message on my parents cell phone asking what they wanted me to do about it. I hung around for two hours, and then just left. I had to drive forty miles back to my house and do laundry before bed time. I left another message saying I'd go back out tonight if they wanted me to.
Then on the way home, some guy in a huge fucking truck towing a boat drove me into the median and crushed my mirrors. Scared the shit out of me, too. I got his license number, but he wouldn't stop. Then five miles down the road, someone's trailer spun off and nearly clipped me, so I spent the remaining thirty miles thinking every other car on the road would be the death of me. I got home and filed a police report, and it turned out the guy who hit me is a Minneapolis cop. He swore to the officer I filed the report with that he didn't know he'd hit me. He didn't hear me laying on the horn for a full minute. He didn't feel it when he crushed and tore off my mirror, and he didn't see me when I drove beside him for the next five miles trying to get him to pull over. He may have been drunk, he may have been an asshole, but my theory is that he was a cop, and didn't want to have to call the cops because he'd just driven someone else off the road and he totally knew it was his fault. I talked to him last night, and he wants to pay for the repairs outright so we don't have to involve his insurance company. I'm guessing that means he and his insurance company may not be the best of friends already. Makes me wonder how many incidents like this he's had in the past. I have a few cops in my family, and it's only half-joking when they say they became cops so they wouldn't lose their licenses.
So that was my day yesterday. It was a full moon, but I don't know if I can blame it on that. That's just the reality-bending power of being Keri. I can't be this awesome without causing a little chaos in my wake.
