Today one of my students was stabbed in the face by another of my students because he scuffed his brand new white tennis shoes.
From this statement you can infer a number of things:
-I have a job.
-I am teaching.
-I am teaching in the ghetto.
Honestly, most of my students are great, and the rest of the staff spent the afternoon assuring me that stabbings aren't a regular occurence. I figure I'll give it another week. If there aren't any more stabbings, I'll stay.
I think it's somewhat remarkable that I spent seven years working a job I hated because violence in schools was one of the excuses I used to keep me out of teaching. It's really just another day, but with more interesting gossip.
I like teaching, and the students like being taught by me. And most importantly, it pays the bills. Not as well as banking did, but far fewer people make me feel like shit on a daily basis, so it all works out.
