Many of you wanted to know more about Greenland, aka the north pole, i hope this helps !
@missy @rambo a little travel entry

Greenland is located in America (above Canada), but it's a political european land because it's a danish colony. You need to fly from Copenhagen, but also more recently you can fly there from Iceland. It is the least densely populated country in the world, and also the most northern one (is that even english ?). Most of its surface is covered in eternal ice (the ice cap), and the rest is Tundra and permafrost (frozen soil) so nothing grows and the people live off animals. Most of its inhabitants are Inuits but a small percentage is Danish. Since the land is mainly ice and mountains, there are no roads and no cars, but everyone has sledge dogs instead.
The real name of Greenland is Kalaallit Nunaat, in Kalaallisut, the greenlandic language.
I went there because it was an old dream of mine to go far north and meet the natives, as i went to meet some of the natives in Canada some year ago. I really hated how colons can go there in vacation but the natives can't go anywhere because everything is too pricy because of the colons... It's in the top of the list of most expensive countries in the world because you need to import everything in Denmark THEN everything in Greenland so it's crazy and totally not ecological.

The surface of the sea is very smooth with no waves because it's always kind of frozen.

The Greenlandic dog is the only breed allowed in the country. They need to be on leash from 5 months old, otherwise they are allowed to be shot on sight :( they are working dogs, not domestical, it really made me uncomfortable as a dog person, to see many unfriendly dog, looking at you like a wild animal would, it made me sad a little.
They work all summer (8 months) and are left in some crappy fields all summer doing nothing.

I really enjoyed the silence due to the absence of cars, you only hear the icebergs crack in a distance, it's another world really.

So many amazing photographs. The country is so beautiful and brutal at the same time. I would imagine only the most fierce soul could inhabit such a country, but I can see what would draw you there.
