So now that I have access to a computer being more active on here will become a thing again!
The first week of October I took a plane to move to Reno, NV away from my hometown of Jamestown, NY. It has been one of the greatest struggles I have been through. Leaving everything you've ever known across the country to make a new life is scary and super exciting! So far I have moved into an apartment with two roommates (my best friend and her boyfriend), acquired an under-the-table job, and made a few new friends.
The apartment is super close to yummy food and the mall, I actually have an elderly couple for neighbors downstairs and the wife is from Buffalo, NY which is only 1.5 hours away from Jamestown. The world gets "smaller and smaller" the more I travel. Still, I find that one of the hardest things is that everywhere I go I no longer run into anyone that I know. Back in my hometown running into someone was an everyday occurrence. Not having a car yet also makes it hard to get things accomplished with what I need to get done. Sometimes I wish I didn't sell my car back home and experienced the drive instead of the flight here. However, it has made my time management and communication skills much better since I have to coordinate my entire schedule with my roommates. I have my own room and bathroom which is amazing!!! I have never experienced having enough room to fit a queen bed and have never had a bathroom to myself. I really miss going to the gym, but we have a nice little gym in our apartment complex so I can keep up with my cardio.
You're probably wondering what my under-the-table job is. Since Halloween I have been trimming cannabis for a friend here. Learning about the entire process has been an amazing experience. Our crew had to trim 36 plants and we are just winding down to the final 10 hours of labor so it's ready to hit the dispensary! My appreciation for cannabis has increased 10 fold knowing how much work goes into it all! I love coming home and reeking of marijuana haha <3. Speaking of dispensaries, I have a major "in" for a job at a new location in Sun Valley, NV which is only a 20 minute drive from my apartment. You may be looking at a new bud tender in late January, my dreams are coming true slowly but surely! Finding a job out here has been a struggle within myself, there is not a lack of opportunity but I have a lack of confidence going into new jobs. I did transfer my hair license to Nevada, but I have yet to find a salon with my alternative style where I would enjoy working. I've applied to warehouse jobs but can't pass the drug test since I use cannabis. Getting my card ASAP! However, I have an interview for Tillie's soon, I am in the "yes" pile and they love me <3 :D! I'll let you guys know if I get the job :*
People are much more pleasant here than on the East coast. I have made friends with a few of my best friend Nicole's friends and they are awesome. My accent is really strong according to them, the way us New Yorker's elongate our vowels is entertaining to them. I find it hilarious that people in Reno call cigarettes "stoges" and that there are lottery machines in every single gas station and grocery store. I don't like gambling at all, but if you look like you're gambling you can get free drinks ;). The holidays are coming up soon and it's going to be hard not being with my family for Thanksgiving or Christmas for the first time in my life. Thankfully I have made friends who don't have family here either and we are having a "Friendsgiving" instead. My family is going to arrange Skype dates for both holidays, but as some of you know it just isn't the same....
Momma bear is going to visit me on December 3rd and I am so excited for her to see the mountains here and experience Reno, Nevada with me! My brother, dad, and stepmom will be visiting me in March. I don't have a clue when I'll be able to visit home again.
