WOW! The latest edition of my War Watch semi-newsletter eMail took me 2 hours to compile. I am going to be very tired for work tomorrow. This unfortunately also means that I will not get around to posting my essay on Reality Tunnels.

On to concert report. Interpol were good. I was intruiged by their Kraftwerk-meets-Scarf-wearing-Indy-Boy look. Liked the music. I found that when performing live, they lost a lot of the comparison to 'Echo and the Bunnymen' that I got from my friend Gabbi. These guys definitely have their own sound. I enjoyed the way all the girls were staring intently at the frontman. I wish I could have those stares directed at me one day.
Something I didn't know until I got there was that the opening band was British Sea Power. Probably the shortest band I've ever seen live. Not one of them could have been more than 5' 8". And certainly eccentric. They had this 'Her-Majesty's-Army-meets-Scarf-wearing-Indy-Boy' look. WWI white socky things pulled up over olive green trousers, military cut blazers with the 3 Rifles insignia and a very strange keyboard player in a WWI british helmet. Lots of samples of passing bombers, Churchill soundbites and 1940's radio. They had a great finish. They had their set dressed up like some budget bird-watching documentary and they threw a stuffed (or plastic?) Canada Goose in to the audience after making it 'fly' around the stage. The strange keyboardist wandered off stage with a drum into the audience to who knows where. Then they threw a stuffed owl. Then they took a tree and waltzed it around. Made unintelligible comments in the mic. They had a great internal connection between them. I admired how they interacted much more than their music. As I said to JVB, they have absolutely NO hooks in their songs. They - to me - are the Indy equivalent of easy listening or elevator music.
The crowd were very beautiful. I was personally shocked to see such a strong gay presence in the audience. I guess Interpol appeals to them. Almost a complete lack of ugly people. Lots of eye candy. Both male and female. But then....it's Sweden. First time I ever saw gay Synth-boy, Kraftwerk-boy, Electro-boy and Scarf-boy (what the hell IS that style called?) couples. They were very open. Something I didn't even see at one of the official gay clubs here caled Tip-Top. A very loving, very touchy-feely atmosphere. It was very cool. Definitely not the meat-market attitude like in Tip-Top.
The DJ's for before and between sets were these two sweet looking girls playing some weird electrosynth and electrorock stuff. I have added to my new music research 2 bands: 'Add N to X' and 'Crossover'. Very good stuff.
Unfortunately I went alone. Gabbi had a last minute emergency. Going to events alone sucks. I need some friends with less emergencies, a little money and more in common.

British Sea Power sounds an unusual group. Very vivid description of thier image there.
As to the UK Uni's, I don't know too much about them as I skipped Uni and went straight to work after college. The only University I know much about is Brunel in Uxbridge as my girlfriend goes there, good for mathematics and engineering. I can always ask my girlfriend anything you need to know, she may have the answers.
A Professor that teaches cybernetics there is the world's first cyborg....mad, but true...
