I caught a guy trying to hang himself with his shoelaces at work today. We moved him to suicide precaution before he could finish the attempt. Something about the holidays that makes everyone want to kill themselves. We've had quite a wave of suicide attempts lately and one that was successful.

I'm sure some people do get something positive out of it, but sadly a large portion of the inmates are repeat offenders. The focus of our facility isn't rehabilitation because it's a pretrial facility (around 500 total people, but as many as 800). We only have a handful of inmates that have been sentenced, so we focus more on short term programs.
and yea, we do wear uniforms. The standard issue ones are a kind of cross between a police officer and a mailman uniform. If you are on the Special Operations team you get Navy blue BDU uniforms like they wear in the military. The BDU uniform looks much cooler.
I never really thought I would be doing a job like this, but I enjoy it most of the time. Not sure if it's something I want to do forever though.

Out of curiosity...if you weren't at the detention center, what else could you picture yourself doing ?(besides being a rich European.)
