So, I come home early from work, and decide to check the mail. I only check it every few days, as all my bills and banking are done online, so usually all that's in my mailbox is junk. Today I go to check the mail, and there is a large envelope from a friend of ours. We helped him out a few years ago, and he keeps "repaying" us unexpectedly. Last year he came down for Thanksgiving with PS3. It had only been out a few days. He works at Wal-Mart!
Anyway, he decided to send us $750 in fucking CASH to help with the kids new school uniforms and some car repairs. We never asked for anything, and we're still pretty stunned. On top of that, I was a claimant in a class action lawsuit against Check-n-Go, for some fees I paid way back in 2000! I had two accounts because of a misspelling, so I got two checks. They were almost $400.
Since the housing bust, I've gone from working 50-65 hours a week, to 30-35. Luckily, I moved to a much cheaper ($300 a month) house, closer to work, school and everywhere else, and have also gotten a small raise, so we have been doing OK. This unexpected bonus will give me a little cushion in case anything unexpected comes up. My boss, who is also my landlord, also lowered my rent $100 unexpectedly this month. I've never had such a streak of good luck, hope it continues.

I'm glad to hear that you're managing through the work shortage with the housing collapse. Hopefully, come November, we'll get someone that'll start making things better, rather than worse.
And like bald_eagle said, it sounds like you've got those people willing to help you out because you were there to help them out when they needed it
