Brenda's Visit, Day 4: Sunday Farewell
Monday, August 22, 2005, 8:00pm
Sunday was rather hectic. It was the day of Wyspurr's roller derby bout. That meant a lot of getting ready. Brenda also had to gather up her things so she wouldn't have to do it at the last minute.
The thing I hate about going to Wyspurr's roller derby bouts is that she has to be there three hours before the action starts. I really love the bouts but the waiting kills me. I did get some nice pics of the girls warming up though. Brenda was super enough to watch the kids the whole time I was playing with cameras. I felt a little rude to put so much responsibility on her but I was very interested in seeing how she handled it since if things go well we might be breeding a half decade from now.
When the action started I switched to my video camera. I really enjoyed taping the bout. It was a lot more intense than the expo bout. Harder. Rougher. It was great. I got some pretty good hits on film and assloads of tumbles. Wyspurr made a pretty good showing despite the fact that she's been missing a lot of practices and wasn't very well rested.
The band playing, The Infernals, was pretty decent. I enjoyed dancing with Brenda and the kids between taping girl shoving each other around.
After the event was over, I started getting into a morose mood. I knew there was but a handful of hours left before Wyspurr had to take Brenda to the bus station so she could return to Florida. I think Brenda was feeling something similar. She became withdrawn and distant.
We did get a really good conversation in before she took a nap to rest up for her bus ride. We got a lot out in the open, most notably what both of us ultimately wanted out of our relationship. I think too many people fail to consider that no matter how much mental, emotional, physical or spiritual attraction there is a relationship needs more motivation than really liking someone to have any serious potential. Fortunately Wyspurr and I can offer a lot of what she ultimately wants and she has a lot to offer me that I've been looking for.
I'm fairly sure she has a lot to offer Wyspurr as well, but it's hard to be completely certain since she often follows her attractions compulsively without thought to what kind of relationship dynamic would come of it. Hence her habit of getting so caught up in chasing complicated, challenging boys without having much idea of what to do with them if she ever catches them.
To put an end to this entry before I get mopey from missing Brenda so much, ours was a short, rushed goodbye. They'd gotten a late start, Wyspurr and she, waking up from their naps. It left me feeling a little empty but I console myself with constant reminders that she'll be backin less than two weeks for Dragon*Con.
