BigBlack81's Star Bar Comedy Debut
BigBlack81 had asked me to come with him to the Star Bar tonight. He was going to sign up to have a go at doing stand-up. He'd invited all his coworkers out and wanted me to videotape his performance. I certainly didn't have anything better to do and I love videotaping stuff, so I agreed. I also went because I wanted to see how he did.
So, I went. I had a beer. I only had one PBR because I'm poor and that was all I could afford. I stole a seat at the table where BigBlack81's coworkers were assembled. BigBlack81 was the fourth to take the stage. I taped as well as I could without a tripod and constantly being jostled. He was on for about eight minutes and did pretty well. The crowd seemed to enjoy it, as most people were laughing and there wasn't much pause between the laughter. While he wasn't the funniest guy to go up, he showed some serious potential to be a contender.
After BigBlack81's set, I put away the camera and settled in to watch the rest of the comics. BigBlack81 chilled by the bar basking in the afterglow of a show well done and the attention he was getting. He even got a number from one reasonably attractive lass who was hugging up on him.
I really enjoy amateur comedy night at the Star Bar, I just never make it out because normally Wyspurr has rollergirl practice. The main reason she didn't go tonight was so I could go tape BigBlack81. I need to figure out a way to go more often.
After the comedians were done, I bid BigBlack81 farewell. I had no interest in staying for kareoke. Strolling on home, I stopped by the BP and pull some money out of the ATM to buy a Coke and pay for the stuff I'd bought last night but hadn't been able to pay for. Then I cuddled with Wyspurr for a bit before she went to bed.
After I came out from cuddling with Wyspurr, BigBlack81 was home and we watched the tape of his performance. It didn't come out too bad. We talked a bit about his strong points and where he'd fallen a little flat. I can't wait to see him give it another go, which he most surely will after making such a strong first impression.
I'm thinking about signing up to do it next time too. I've always had a love of stand-up comedy, so of course I've often fantasized about doing it myself. I just know I get horrible stage fright. Still, I might give it a try anyway, just so that I can say I did it. I think I can do alright as long as I don't completely go blank and freeze up. BigBlack81 and I have made a pact to videotape each other, so at least if I humiliate myself my friends can enjoy it for years to come.
