I'm listening to Odds & Ends, a Warrior Soul rarities disc. On the back of the case it says "4, 8, 16 & 24 track recordings from the band that fought America, fought the business...and ultimately lost." Sad but true words. Somewhere out there Kory Clarke is out there and there aren't many of us left who remember or care about his great contribution to politically driven metal. It was as though they lost their sense of purpose after Bush Sr. was voted out of the Oval Office. Boy, could we use them now. The early Warrior soul, not the glam abortion that was their last album.
Anyway, the past two days have been great. Saturday's early evening found me at El Myr with Danny having a few drinks and pounding out a couple of Roth & Earl strips. Definitely a favorite activity. It's always funny to see people crane their heads to gawk at Danny's drawing. A couple of guys even asked questions about what we were working on.
Late Saturday evening was even better. Wyspurr, Danny, and myself went to Java Monkey to see the live debut of Juliana's band, Five Day Drive. We got there late because Wyspurr tried to take a short cut and got a little off course. We didn't miss too much, though.
I treated myself to a Guinness and squeezed into the crowded room Juliana was playing in. she was the opener for her own band, which suited me just fine. I love to hear that girl sing.
The first thing I noticed was that Leigh was there. I had hoped she would be and figured she might be but I thought the odds were good that something would get in the way of her making it from Asheville so I was doubly delighted to see her after several months. She's one of the few people from Asheville that I genuinely miss. I waited until the intermission between Juliana's solo performance and her band going on to talk to her, then reuniting ensued with generous portions of hugs, cheek kisses, and otehr much missed forms of physical contact. She seemed happy and that made me happy.
Juliana and her band gave a good show. I can't wait for their EP to finally be released.
Last night was more subdued. After seeing a commercial for Puppet Master vs Demonic Toys we decided now was the time to rewatch the Puppet Master series. So the household, alond with katfireblade and Adrian, bought pizza and watched the first Puppet Master flick, which was fun. katfireblade is great to watch those kinds of movies with. If I'm lucky she'll be over tonight to watch the second one with us. I've been dying to rewatch the Puppet Master series but abhor watching movies alone, especially ones I've seen before.
