NaNoWriMo 2005, Day 3

I just finished Chapter Three. It was pretty steady going up until the end when I had to start into the transition to the next chapter. Im a bit disappointed with myself that sleepiness slowed me down towards the end and I didnt get into Chapter Four. 2406 more words isnt anything to scoff at though. I still have a lot of catching up to do, though, if Im to be where I want to be by the time I leave for my trip to Tampa.

Im so glad I signed up for this. Im fairly sure that NaNoWriMo is going to change my life. Ive been able to break through a lot of the mental barriers that have been inhibiting my writing. NaNoWriMo has given me the impetus to beat the living shit out of my internal editor. I only move forward with my writing since starting this challenge. No going back and wiping out an hour of work just because there was something minor wrong with it.

Im writing. Im really writing. Im not struggling to get 1000 words out in a week. Im churning out over 2000 words a day and I can actually feel my story progress instead of being mired in the tar pit of my criticalness to the point that I get too frustrated to continue. It might not be great prose, but Im getting a decent framework down so that I can go back and fill things in after Im done with the first draft.

Thats right, brain. First Draft. Drrrraaaaaaft. As in its a preliminary version, not a final manuscript. If you could just keep hold of the concept that it doesnt have to be perfect the first time through we might actually be able to make some progress towards being a serious writer.
