I promised Kriss an update on some paranormal experiences I've had in the past year.
Where the fucks my golden arm?
In a nutshell I have regular contact with a house I'm sure is haunted in a very complex way, & I'm really not much of a paranormal subscriber. You always read how buildings theoretically absorb the energy/memories of the things that happen in them, and somehow manifest those vibes, well I've never visited a place that so defines this theory. When I'm there I just feel 'it', and its not comfortable.
I work in mental health, the real trenches, a lot of severe/persistent mental illness, especially the more psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, schizoaffective, etc). I've sat with people who thought they were everyone from Jesus to Superman (actually Superman lives in this house).
The house is a very sad dilapidated group home I visit once a week, full of very sick folks with severe disabilities (mental retardation mixed with psychotic disorders), the place is run like a prison, and it makes me angry as I see it as reflective of a society that wants to shut away its problems & not deal with them on a humane level. 'Broken' people stashed into a broken, haunted outcast place. I dunno, I just find it poignant these people are stashed into such an evil place.
The house was acquired in the 80's & was known as Project D4 in post Thomas S mental health, built late 60's, & was a headquarters for Hells Angels in NC during the 70's. There are many reports & rumours from people everywhere that the house was a hotbed of crime, including murders (house is very isolated & well insulated), coercive 'pay up asshole' beatings, and major drug activity (construction workers upon renovation found a trashbag of rotten pot stashed in a crawlspace LOL). The place has fallen apart now, but its layout reminds me of the pool & house in Boogie Nights, the place just has that 70's partyhouse feel, but in a darker way. The head Angel in charge was allegedly very paranoid, so the house is still snaked with huge fat cables running from room to room connected to old school surveillance cameras. Cables droop down in most rooms.
The place is indescribably oppressive, dark, dirty, & heavy, everyone who visits it reports a feeling that there is just something wrong, a dark presence that makes me uncofmortable in a way I've never experienced. Something painful has happened there. The shadows are weird, the light is weird, theres an ever-present feeling of being watched, or rather scowled at from all directions. Reports by staff of hearing noises of all kinds & seeing strange sights are numerous, although I've never actually SEEN anything.
BUT I visit a man there, Superman, who is afflicted with a schizophrenia like I've never seen, very sad. He's got it bad, and his positive symptoms trap him in a world I can only imagine full of grandiose wrathful religion & delusions of grandeur centering on abuse of children. But above all else, he hears voices, MANY voices, & holds highly impressive & complex conversations with them; theres something very ethereal about watching him converse with them, somehow it makes me wonder just what he *might* know that we don't, his conviction alone is eery.
So I'm coming down the dark hallway I loathe to meet with him in a connected room, I turn the corner to where I have dark peripheral view into the room, he doesn't yet know I'm there. Sitting on the sofa, I'm watching from a distance over his shoulder as he is engaged in a full-on conversation with noone in the room, a very edetailed religious discussion. The gait/pace/natural rhythm of it was chilling, he paused for long periods listening & nodding his head in affirmation & understanding, & would interject his own observations, basically it was behavioral stuff native to conversation that I would find difficult to replicate alone. The exchange looked & felt genuine. Right before I enter the room I hear him ask, "how long have you been in this house?" I enter, & he stands in politeness, & politiely holds up his hand to his phantom interlocutor as if to say 'hold on a sec'. The whole time, he's wearing his usual full-tooth angry & quite scary grin matched by a very intense & void stare.
