Actually yaknow what could work damn well instead? Do you by any chance know of the Vampire: The Masquerade roleplaying game?
Basically it's set in modern times and ditches most of the stock vampire mythos. For example, garlic and stakes dont do shit, but a shotgun blast to the head will leave a vamp hurtin'. Think Angel but darker and more twisted in its imagery. Anyway, my point is that there's very cool alternative ways of doing the whole vampire thing without going the whole sleeping-in-a-coffin, stakes and garlic route.
If there's any way I can help then you're more then welcome to ask.

Tomorrow morning I have to pick up some friends to take them to pick out hair dye for me. Then I have solid band practice, and after that I go back to get my hair dyed.
