So, here's a cute little story from work today. I'm a substitute TA. Today I was in a first grade classroom and the teacher had the room set up in stations with activities for the kids to do. One of the stations was "Word Families". These are groups of words that end the same. For example, the "ose" family includes nose, hose, etc.
The objective of the activity was to come up with 6 words for the assigned family. They had little tiles with possible word beginings on them (n, sh, tr, d,etc.) to help them out. This resulted in words like tose being made up.
Anyway, today wasn't "ose" family day. Today was "ore" family day. "Miss R., is 'whore' a word?". I had to do my best to keep a straight face when I told them "no, whore is not a word."
I told their teacher about this and she replied, "You should've been there when we did the "uck" family!"
