vampirate

I told the border guard that I consider myself a Citizen of The Universe. He was not impressed.

This is symbolic of the organizational level of the Troika Music Festival:

Despite running around like someone who's trying to catch a chicken that's had its head cut off so that he can reattach it, I've had fun so far.

Our show went extremely well. I was all manner of leery about playing at the Cosmic Cantina Lounge, but we ended up rocking out pretty solidly in front of a crowd that would never normally see us. They even paid attention. Emphatic thanks again to not_tom (or possibly his son, who is way cool) for stealing little hot bits of our souls.

I also got to see Man Man, who are every bit as awesome live as Fluxy assured me they would be. Their record, while great, pales in comparison to the Dr. John-style extended evil muppet samba catharsis they deliver in person. Holy hell.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
Next year, though, for the sake of all the local acts, I wish they'd just forego the few big out-of-town bands that soak up all the money. Money! We don't have any, we never ask for any, please don't ask for any from us. I also wish that when they ask someone to visit a venue ahead of time to determine what equipment is required, they would listen to that person's suggestions. I'm sick to death of underequipped venues. The fact that your system was adequate for a DJ does not mean that it's adequate for a rock band*.

*I love you dearly, but I'm talking to, amongst other places, you Joe & Jo's.

There will be no fooling myself on this one; I've got to walk through the fire until it doesn't burn anymore.

I'll take that drink in 365 hours.
