I am waiting for President Obama's speech about the official pulling out of Iraq. As I wait I am watching the movie We Were Soldiers.
I am reminded of the Vietnam Syndrome...the fact that because of that loss America has been somewhat reluctant to declare war. I see the same thing happening here. I don't believe it is the right time to leave, I think the country will either fall apart or fall into another dictatorship, I think it is too unstable to hold itself up. And that saddens me, that again what has happened is we have gone into another country, promised them change and peace and left them when our government and the public (the majority of whom have not even considered joining the armed forces) decided that our American soldiers' lives were more important than theirs or their freedom. Where politics plays a more important role in how America runs a war, in many other countries it is out of survival that people fight.
I do not really have much of a opinion on if we should have gone into Iraq or not, but I do believe in finishing what was started and doing it properly. I don't think things there have been handled correctly, and I don't think that it is our place to tell them how to govern themselves. However, since we have chosen to get involved then we should stay involved until it is really resolved.

Perhaps I am biased in my opinions, but I have a right to be.. I have been there, I have seen things and I believe that we are selling the country short by leaving. I think that the few soldiers left there are left between a rock and a hard place.
